Hi All!
One of the reasons I created this blog was so my friends and family could live vicariously through my experience in this beautiful country. The biggest reason I created this blog, was because I'm too lazy to pick up a piece of paper and pencil to write an elaborate journal.
Keep in mind that I am not a professional writer or photographer, so I'm sure many of you will find tons of mistakes in my work. Feel free to point them out to me, but I'll probably just laugh and forget to change it.
I am going to South Africa for 6 months to study abroad at the University of Cape Town. This is not an exchange program directly through Towson University, but rather a program with the International Studies Abroad organization. This means all the people I will meet in my program may or may not be from Maryland or even from the east coast at all. I was able to clear a semester in my schedule to do this, so the classes I take abroad have absolutely nothing to do with either of my majors. I just needed to take classes to be a full time student and live on campus. In fact, I'll be taking classes like African Dance Music and Xhosa language (one of the click languages).
To be honest, even though I'm taking classes abroad, I am not going to South Africa to focus only on school work. I just believe in traveling while you're young or just whenever you have the greatest opportunity to. I could go on and on about how traveling gives you an open mind and blah blah blah, but to me it's really a way to show that the problems or stress I have at home are relatively super small compared to the rest of the world. In our life we're fortunate enough to be able to go out and see the planet and I'm just trying to do that. All I know is the world is my oyster.
Why did I pick South Africa? I have no idea. I know nothing about it but that's the best part. ;)
(For all my family members, however, don't worry I made sure it was safe.)
Currently this website is used for my trip to South Africa, but in the future I plan on adding many more countries to the site.
Enjoy!
